Ljubljana and her NightlifePart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for centuries, and then part of Yugoslavia, Slovenia maintained an elitism compared to other Eastern European countries, by creating independence in 1991.With a need to be western, but with that Eastern chic, Ljubljana since Slovenia gained full EU membership in 2004, has become more and more popular. The outskirts of Ljubjana are a little rough looking, but when you get inside the city you could be in Austria, or Switerland. Slovenia is a buzzing little country of 2million inhabitants, and is intent to make its mark on visitors. Nightlife There are loads of bars in Ljubjlana’s Old Town which are always bustling. The Orto Bar is a very friendly bar, with a great atmosphere, good drinks, and decent male/female ratios. It’s an alternative place, in terms of music and people, although that is Slovenia. Global is another fun place in the centre of Ljubljana, located on the top of a department store in the city centre. It has great views of the castle and old town from its outdoor terrace. You need to go up an elevator with guards, which adds to the fun. After 9pm the bar turns into a nightclub and you will have to pay to get in (dress up a bit). Another good venue, Club Lipa, is found out of town (take a taxi), where international and local DJs play all night. In any case, the Boardnlodge and Bikenlodge teams are locals, and can send you to all the places right for you. More images: |
