At the forefront of Europe's Eastward expansion you could be forgiven for thinking that much of Bulgaria is a building site of hastily constructed holiday homes but in fact resorts such as Borovets date back to the late 19th century. Despite substantial inward investment, and development of residential apartments, hotels, etc. and associated infrastructure, Borovets has managed to maintain its own quaint charm, typified by wooden interiors, open fires, and, perhaps, above all, the friendliness of its people. 

Bulgaria and the Borovets/Rila National Park area in particular offer something for every level: From mellow greens and blues for the beginners,  to advanced skiers and snowboarders who will find, in the backcountry around these resorts, some of the best and most raw off-piste experiences in Europe at their disposal!
