Like Slovenia (and often confused with it!) Slovakia is a beautiful, green, mountainous country in central Europe with some cracking mountain resorts in the Tatras range.

The Tatras are the highest section of the Carpathian mountain range that runs through Central Europe. The majority of the Tatras range is in Slovakia and in European terms they are not huge, running for just 53kms along the border with Poland and rising to an altitude of 2,655 m. What they lack in stature, however, they more than make up for in beauty and diversity of the terrain and landscape.

Part of the former Czechoslovakia until 1993's peaceful 'velvet divorce' Slovakia has preserved it's language, culture and customs and remains now a Central European gem for the adventurous to explore!
